2016’s recruitment of 24,000 teachers in Bengal cancelled

Kolkata (Bengal) – The Calcutta High Court quashed the 2016 teacher recruitment in Bengal. The Court has also ordered the teachers appointed through this recruitment to refund all that they received in the last 8 years. The Court directed the ‘West Bengal School Service Commission’ to start a fresh recruitment process. Action has also been ordered against all the illegal teachers within 15 days. At the same time, the Court has clarified that the job of Soma Das, who is suffering from cancer, will remain safe.

1. Mamata Banerjee’s Government had recruited teachers in the year 2014. This process was completed in the year 2016. Partha Chatterjee was then the Education Minister of the State. The petitioners of this case had alleged that even the candidates who had secured lesser marks were given higher position in the merit list.
2. In this case, the CBI had arrested Partha Chatterjee, a lady close to him, and some officials of the commission. It is alleged that a bribe of Rs 5 to 15 lakh was received during this recruitment.
3. Government of Bengal recruited teaching and non-teaching staff for Government and aided schools through State level examination. For this, more than 23 lakh people appeared for the recruitment exam for 24,640 vacancies.
Editorial Perspective
The Court should hold the Chief Minister of the State guilty in this case and order to put her in jail. The expenses incurred for this recruitment should also be recovered from her. |
