The broad daylight killing of a VHP leader in Punjab
Chandigarh – Vikas Prabhakar, an office bearer of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, was fatally stabbed with a sharp weapon in Punjab’s Rupnagar district. The assailants, arriving on a two-wheeler, attacked him. The motive behind the murder remains unknown. Hindu organizations have condemned the killing and raised concerns about the law-and-order situation in Punjab. The incident occurred on April 13th.
Vikas Prabhakar owns a shop in the Nangal area of Anandpur Sahib district. He was appointed as the president of VHP’s Nangal just three months ago.
On April 13th, around 6:30 in the evening, Vikas Prabhakar was at a sweet shop in the Nangal area. Shortly after, an employee from a neighbouring shop approached him and found Vikas lying on the chair in a pool of blood. Vikas was declared dead upon admission to the hospital. He had sustained multiple stab wounds to the head from a sharp weapon, resulting in excessive bleeding and ultimately causing his death.
A Hindu leader criticized the Chief Minister of the state, accusing him of being preoccupied with election campaigning during the killings of Hindus. In response, angry protesters have declared that they will not cremate Vikas Prabhakar’s body until the accused are arrested.
Editorial Perspective
The vulnerability of Hindus, who are a minority in the Aam Aadmi Party-led state, is a concerning issue. If the victim had been a Muslim or Sikh leader, the incident would have garnered more attention nationwide. However, the relative silence surrounding the killing of a Hindu leader is notable. |
