As the situation worsens in Myanmar, India moves the embassy staff in Sittwe
3 Indian youths kidnapped
New Delhi – The conflict between the army and the people is raging in India’s neighbouring country Myanmar and the situation there is worsening. India said it has shifted staff from Myanmar’s consulate in Sittwe to Yangon given the uncertain security situation there.
Ministry External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that India is closely monitoring the situation in Myanmar. Necessary steps are being taken for the safety of our citizens. Indian Consulate in Mandalay is functioning.
When asked about the report of the kidnapping of 3 Indian youth, Jaiswal said that the Indian Embassy is working on it, and it is hoped that the youth will return home soon.
Since the military seized power on 1st February 2021, Myanmar has been witnessing widespread violent protests demanding the restoration of democracy.
