‘The Kerala Story’ film aired on Doordarshan despite Kerala’s Hindu-hating Chief Ministers’ opposition
Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) – The film ‘The Kerala Story’ was broadcast on Doordarshan on the night of 5th April. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had criticized the decision to air this broadcast. Vijayan had posted on Twitter, ‘Doordarshan should not become a propaganda tool for BJP and RSS.’ He had demanded that the broadcast of the film be stopped. This film was released in the country on 5th May 2023. At that time, the progressive parties in the state had opposed it.
The Marxist Communist Party criticized the decision, saying that airing such a film, which is propaganda for the BJP, was a result of the recent elections. The entry of the saffron party into Kerala’s society has prompted the BJP to try to advance its political agenda. This is a challenge for Kerala.
When this film was aired, there were intense protests in Kerala. The censor board had removed 10 scenes from the film. The Kerala High Court had refused to halt the screening of the film, stating that there was nothing specifically objectionable targeting any particular community in the film’s advertisement.
