India may attack us, Pakistan says in UN
Islamabad (Pakistan) – ‘India, the largest country in South Asia, currently manufactures arms on a large scale. This is a threat to the security of the region’, Pakistan alleged at the UN Disarmament Commission meeting.
Munir Akram, Pakistan’s representative, said that India is now the world’s largest arms importer, and is being supplied by its strategic partners with nuclear, missiles, conventional and other destabilising weapons. This has increased the risk of surprise attack on Pakistan. The situation has further been exacerbated by India’s sponsorship of terrorism against Pakistan and the absence of dialogue and international action. Unless determined steps are taken by the international community to address this situation, it could emerge as the proximate cause of a regional and global catastrophe. Pakistan had proposed the creation of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in South Asia. Unfortunately, 20 after the adoption of this commitment, one South Asian State (India) unilaterally conducted nuclear weapons explosions, and Pakistan was then obliged to follow suit.
On Jammu and Kashmir issue, Munir Akram said, ‘With a long-standing dispute, where the right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir are being brutally suppressed, with two major armies deployed in close proximity, with the induction of major destabilising weapons and war fighting doctrines, with the sponsorship of terrorism against Pakistan, and with the absence of dialogue or international action, the security environment in South Asia is volatile and explosive’.
Editorial Perspective
This is nothing but hypocrisy ! Pakistan has attacked India 4 times since Independence and faced defeat each time. Still, it indulges in this kind of fakery. This shows how clever it is in tactics ! |
