War with Sri Lanka needed to get Kachchatheevu island back : Former Attorney General of India Mukul Rohatgi
In 1974, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi gifted the island to Sri Lanka without taking anything in return
New Delhi – Former Attorney General of India Mukul Rohatgi has made a serious allegation that the Congress Government, in exchange for some change, gave away the Kachchatheevu island to Sri Lanka. He said this during an interview given to an English news channel. If you want this island back, then you will have to go to war with Sri Lanka, he added.
Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had given away the Kachchatheevu Island to Sri Lanka. This information has come to light through an RTI application. The information was made public by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself a few days ago. Mukul Rohatgi was the Attorney General in 2014. At that time, he had raised the issue of the Kachchatheevu island during the discussions held in the Supreme Court. This island is located about 16 km from Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu.
Tradition of exchanging territories
Usually, there is a tradition of exchanging territories between two neighbouring countries. In this, one nation gives a part of its territory to another nation in exchange for some other piece of land. According to Rohatgi, such an exchange took place between India and Pakistan from 1958 to 1960. A few years ago, during the Modi Government, similar territory exchanges were made with Bangladesh. So why did the Congress give Kachchatheevu island to Sri Lanka without any return ? Congress will have to give answers to these questions, Rohatgi also said at this time.
Editorial Perspective
Congress has a tradition of sacrificing India’s integrity. Now, Hindus must unite through the medium of elections to permanently destroy this party. |
