Calling one’s partner ghost, vampire etc. is not cruelty : Patna High Court
HC’s comment during the hearing of a divorce case
Patna (Bihar) – Recently during a divorce case, Patna High Court ruled that a married couple calling each other names like ghost-vampire, is not cruelty. A resident of Bokaro, Jharkhand, Sahadev Gupta and his son Naresh Gupta had filed a petition. At the time of hearing of this petition, the division bench of Justice Vivek Chaudhari made this comment. The divorced wife of Naresh Gupta had filed a case at a local Court. This case was challenged by the father-son duo.
The advocate of the divorced woman had argued that in the 21st century, calling a woman as ghost and vampire by her in-laws, is an act of cruelty. The High Court noted that this argument is not admissible. In marriages, and especially in most of the unsuccessful marriages, husband-wife use foul language. However, using such language does not mean cruelty, the Court noted.
Editorial Perspective
Due to lack of spiritual practice, husband and wife in Kaliyug come down to such low levels of fights. Many a times they end into a divorce. Such incidents highlight that the society needs to turn to spirituality if it wants to be happy and wary of wrong practices. |
