Maharashtra Government orders to keep Mantralaya clean and tidy
Result of news in ‘Dainik Sanatan Prabhat’ and HJS’ complaint under ‘Surajya Abhiyan’
Mumbai, 13th March – Despite the Maharashtra Government’s commendable initiative to adopt a ‘paperless’ system, the reality within the Mantralaya reveals an overwhelming presence of physical files.
Taking action on the news published in ‘Dainik Sanatan Prabhat’ and the complaint lodged by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) under its ‘Surajya Abhiyan’, the Maharashtra Government issued an order on 11th March 2024 to keep the Mantralaya clean and tidy. News about the piles of files lying on the tables in all the Departments in Mantralaya had been published on 14th September 2023 on the website of Dainik Sanatan Prabhat, though it was previously claimed by the Government that the work at the Mantralaya was paperless. Based on this news, HJS filed a complaint with the Chief Minister, Dy Chief Ministers and Chief Secretary of Maharashtra on 27th September 2023.
The order has been issued by the General Administration Department of the State Government that all Administrative Departments maintain cleanliness and tidiness, and devise an action plan. There are several unusable things, materials and old records lying in different places in the Mantralaya building which is the main office of the Maharashtra Government. All these Departments are to be cleaned as per the order.
Many circulars have been issued earlier to maintain cleanliness in the respective Departments. Only after the news was published in ‘Dainik Sanatan Prabhat’ and the complaint filed by HJS, did the Government directly issue an order to implement an action plan for cleanliness.
Heaps of files cause inconvenience at work : Daily Sanatan Prabhat
The heaps of files on all tables in every Department of the Mantralaya are so huge that they are seen on every side and around the computers on the tables. In some Departments, files are stacked even on the chairs. The situation is no different even in the offices of the Chief Minister and Dy Chief Ministers, leaving no place for their staff to sit and work. They have to sit amidst heaps of files, the news in ‘Dainik Sanatan Prabhat’ said.
Appeal to take policy decision
The Mantralaya is the main Administrative centre of the State Government; therefore, Administrative officers from all parts of the State come here to work. It is expected that these officers be inspired by the coordination and management at the Mantralaya so that they can implement it in their Administrative offices across the State. Instead, the files are kept in a disorderly and chaotic manner in all Departments, which is unbecoming of the Headquarters of the Maharashtra Government. A similar situation could be prevailing in all Government offices across the State. ‘Dainik Sanatan Prabhat’ news, therefore, suggested to study the situation and take a policy decision, not only for the Mantralaya but in all Government offices in Maharashtra.
Order to devise an action plan to maintain cleanliness
As per the Government order, an action plan has been devised to keep all Administrative Departments in the Mantralaya clean and tidy, which includes taking a review of papers, files and their classification. Files should be properly disposed after a time limit; old computers, printers and unnecessary papers should be disposed, and e-paper should be used for correspondence, etc.
