Pune – The Khadakwasla Water Reservoir Protection Drive undertaken on the day of ‘Dhuli-vandan’ was successful. It was the 22nd year of this drive. Maharashtra is already facing a water shortage; therefore, such a drive was significant. The drive was undertaken by HJS, residents of Khadakwasla and other like-minded organisations on 25th March 2024. A human chain was formed by the activists of HJS around the reservoir, while explaining to people the importance of not getting into the reservoir to prevent water pollution. Many people including locals, and devout Hindus from Hivare, Saswad, Parinche, Waghalwadi Nasrapur, Shirwal, Bhor, Navalewadi, Daund, Pargaon and Pimpri-Chinchwad participated in this drive.

Khadakwasla is one of the four water reservoirs that provides potable water to Pune city and its present volume is 1.19 tmc. This drive has been undertaken for the last 22 years in the interest of people to prevent water pollution on the days of ‘Dhuli-vandan’ and ‘Rang-Panchami’. HJS has been creating awareness amongst people to stop people from getting into the reservoir and playing with colours; to stop other malpractices taking place under the guise of celebration of Hindu festivals; and to share knowledge with Hindus of ‘Dharmashaastra’.

Highlights

• H.H. (Mrs) Manisha Pathak, Sanatan Sanstha’s Saint graced the occasion with her presence.
• There were very few people this year, who wanted to play with colours in the reservoir, owing to the constant awareness created by HJS and its regular drives.
• Mr Akash Jadhav, a devout Hindu from Siyaram Mandir branch at Hadapsar joined the drive with his friends despite difficulty in walking due to his recent accident.
• Devout Hindus paid gratitude to ‘Jal-Devata’ for the success of the drive.
