Renowned singers Ranjani and Gayatri boycott Music Academy’s conference
Cited objection to honouring anti-Hindu and anti-Brahmin singer TM Krishna with Kalanidhi award
Bengaluru (Karnataka) – Renowned Indian classical musicians Ranjani and Gayatri have announced their decision to withdraw from the Music Academy’s Conference 2024, including their scheduled concert on 25th December, as TM Krishna will preside it. They have cited their objection after the Music Academy honoured TM Krishna with the Sangita Kalanidhi award earlier this week. Madras Music Academy President N Murali has criticised Ranjani and Gayatri; however, netizens are showering praises on social media as the duo took stand for Sanatan Dharma.

Krishna has damaged Carnatic classical singing : Ranjani and Gayatri
1. Ranjani and Gayatri have posted their decision on X. Both Ranjani and Gayatri expressed strong views against Krishna’s presidency. They alleged that Krishna has caused immense damage to the Carnatic music world.
2. Krishna wilfully and happily stomped over the sentiments of this community and insulted most respected icons like Tyagaraja and MS Subbulakshmi. His actions have tried to spread a sense of shame in being a carnatic musician and have been exhibited through his consistent denigration of spirituality in music.
3. He has vilified the Carnatic music fraternity that has collectively contributed millions of hours of artistry, hard work and literature.
4. They added, ‘We believe in a value system that respects art and artists, vaggeyakaras, rasikas, institutions, our roots and culture. We will be in moral violation if we were to bury these values and join this year’s conference’.
Anti-Hindu and anti-Brahmin TM Krishna
TM Krishna is a singer from Tamil Nadu who works for caste system eradication. He belongs to Dravidian ideology. He criticised the famous singer MS Subbulakshmi for being a Brahmin. Songs on Hindu Deities are composed in Carnatic music; however, Krishna says that Carnatic music should also include songs on Gods of other religions.
About Carnatic Music
Carnatic music is the main musical tradition of South India, the counterpart to Hindustani classical music of North India. Both share many principles and techniques but evolved under very different influences. The work of a Carnatic musician is spiritual in context, as the basic principles of this tradition provide the tools necessary to express great emotion. Carnatic tradition is known for its complex rhythms and melodies, based on the classical Indian frameworks of talas and ragas. The most popular instruments used in Carnatic performances include vocals, mridangam, ghatam, kanjira, santoor, venu flute, tanpura, and veena.
