Sri Lanka allows German research vessel to dock at its port
China outraged
Colombo (Sri Lanka) – Sri Lanka has allowed foreign research vessels to dock at its port once again. Accordingly, a German ship was allowed at its port. China has criticised this action by Sri Lanka. The Chinese Embassy protested saying, ‘our ship was not allowed in February, how a German ship can dock now ?’
Earlier in February, as India objected, Sri Lanka had denied permission to Chinese vessel spying under the pretext of research and in the wake of it, all foreign vessels were banned.
Editorial Perspective
It is Sri Lanka’s prerogative to allow or deny permission to research vessel of a country. Yet, China is interfering with Sri Lanka’s internal matters to keep it under control. It is in the interest of both India and Sri Lanka that Sri Lanka defies Chinese pressure and India helps Sri Lanka from time to time. |
