Moscow – Vladimir Putin has secured victory in the Presidential Election by 88% votes. He will rule as Russian President for the 5th consecutive time. He has been in power since 1999. Boris Yeltsin had handed over power to him in 1999. Putin has not lost a single election since. He will remain in power for the next 6 years.
In this election, there were 3 candidates against 71-year-old Putin. All the three refrained from criticising Putin’s 24 years’ rule or his decision to take special military action against Ukraine.
With this victory, Putin has broken Joseph Stalin’s record of being in power for the longest time. Putin now holds the record of being President of Russia for the longest time in the Russian history over the past 200 years.
Putin’s opponents had protested at the poll stations. US has remarked that this election was not fair and free.
