Pakistan is a dangerous place for Shia Muslims

Geneva (Switzerland) – A Kashmiri activist has shown a mirror to Pakistan which constantly tries to assert its importance in the Islamic world. Kashmiri activist Javid Baig highlighted the plight of Shia Muslims in Pakistan at the 55th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva. He said, “Pakistan is a dangerous place for Shia Muslims.” Baig discussed the dire situation of Shia Pashtuns in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region. He also compared the situation in Pakistan with the development in Kashmir. Interestingly, the day before Baig disclosed this situation, Pakistan had presented a resolution on ‘Islamophobia’ (hatred towards Islam) in the United Nations General Assembly.
Dear Friends,
Here is yet another video of my intervention speech yesterday at 55th session of United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, Switzerland, wherein I take Pakistani Punjabi Muslim ruling elite to task and hold them accountable for continuing deteriorating… pic.twitter.com/O6G130sBX8

1. Baig posted on ‘X’ what he said in the Security Council. “The persecution of Shia Muslims in Pakistan has increased to such an extent that the Pakistani institutions, judiciary and media have become ineffective in bringing them justice. Compared to Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir has become a brighter place, where inter-religious harmony, progress and economic well-being of all, have been strengthened. I have no hesitation in saying this.”
2. Baig pointed to the ongoing communal violence targetting Shia Muslims in Parachinar. The majority population of Parachinar is either from Turi or Shia Bangash Pashtun tribes. Deobandi and Salafi ideologies consider them kafirs (idol worshippers). For the past 3 decades, these Shia tribes have been subjected to sectarian violence at the hands of terrorist organisations which follow this ideology. Baig also mentioned the 2007 war in which thousands of Shias were killed by Sunni militants.
Editorial Perspective
Hope that if there are any pro-Pak Indian Shia Muslims, they would realise their mistake from Baig’s remarks. |
