An illegal Dargah and two temples demolished by Administration in Junagadh, Gujarat

In June last year, Muslims had attacked the Police during the demolition drive

Junagadh (Gujarat) – A Dargah, which was the epicentre of a clash between the Police and protesters last year, and two temples, both built on encroached land in Junagadh, were demolished by the civic body. This action was taken at night to avoid any untoward incident during the operation. A large Police presence was kept at this time to ensure the law-and-order situation did not get disturbed.

In June last year, the administration had given a notice to demolish the Dargah. The locals opposed it. An estimated 200 to 300 local citizens came together to protest. When the Police tried to remove them from this place, they attacked the Police. Deputy Superintendent of Police and three Policemen were injured. The Dargah was demolished on the night of 9th March 2024 after the High Court ruled that the Dargah was illegally built.

Editorial Perspectives

  • It would be not surprising if someone thinks that the administration demolished the Hindu temples to show they do not discriminate; to avoid attacks on the Police.
  • Hindus do not object when action is taken against their temples, but Muslims retaliate by taking  law into their hands. It is a tight slap to those who rant that ‘Muslims are unsafe in the country’.
