National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) directive to shift the colony of Pakistani Hindu refugees in Delhi

New Delhi – Delhi Development Authority has issued notices to Hindu refugees from Pakistan who are living in the ‘Majnu ka Tila’ area to vacate that place. This means that 160 Hindu families who fled Pakistan may become homeless. Presently, they have all been moved to night shelters. The DDA’s officers say that the DDA has had to vacate the area on the orders of NGT. Action will be taken as soon as the Police force is deployed.

The chief of the Hindu refugees Dayal Das said that they had met MP Manoj Tiwari. “He has assured that the Hindu refugees will not be evicted from here. More than 750 people belonging to 160 Pakistani refugee families live here. Our children’s schools are in this place. If we are evicted from here, then how can we educate our children ?”, Das asked.

Editorial Perspective

If this colony is illegal, why didn’t the Government provide them legitimate housing ? It is shameful that they have to endure the same fate that they endured in Pakistan !
