After 55 days on the run, TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh, accused of sexually exploiting Hindu women, finally arrested

Kolkata (Bengal) – Trinamool Congress leader Shahjahan Sheikh, identified as the mastermind behind the attack on the Enforcement Directorate team and the sexual exploitation of Hindu women in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas District of Bengal, has finally been apprehended by the Bengal Police. Upon being presented in Court, he was remanded to Police custody for 10 days. Shahjahan Sheikh had been evading capture, concealing himself in a residence in the Minakah area, for 55 days. His arrest comes after the Kolkata High Court reproached the State Government’s handling of the Shahjahan case. After the arrest of Shahjahan, the women in Sandeshkhali expressed their happiness by playing Holi. Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress has suspended Shahjahan from the party for 6 years.

Police will provide five-star facilities to Shahjahan – BJP’s allegation

Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari alleged that Shahjahan Sheikh will be well taken care of in Police and Judicial custody. He will be given facilities like a five-star hotel in the jail. He will also be given a mobile phone, with the help of which he will run the party online.

The arrest by the Bengal Government, following a High Court order, appears to be a mere attempt to deceive the public. If the Trinamool Congress had been sensitive, Shahjahan would not have been at large for 55 days. Hindus doubt whether he will face proper legal action even with his arrest. Therefore, the Union Government must take over the investigation, especially regarding the attack on the Enforcement Directorate team, to reveal the true nature of the case.

Even after the arrest, Sheikh Shahjahan was swaggering. This shows that under Trinamool Congress rule, Police have no respect.

News channels aired footage of Shahjahan Sheikh being escorted to Court following his arrest. Surprisingly, there was no sign of apprehension on his face, nor did it appear that the Police had arrested him. Instead, he carried himself with an air of authority, almost resembling a king, while the Police appeared more like his aides. Sheikh even made a victory gesture (V shape) with his fingers in front of the media cameras. The BJP has also condemned the Trinamool Congress in Bengal for this incident.
