We cannot pay attention to the country that hosts terrorism : Anupama Singh, India’s First Secretary to the UN
India’s sharp retort to Pakistan about Kashmir in the United Nations
New York (USA) – At the high-level segment of the 55th regular session of the UN Human Rights Council, India exercised the ‘Right to Reply’ in a sharp retort to Pakistan for raising the Kashmir issue on the platform. While responding to Pakistan, India’s First Secretary at the UN HRC Anupama Singh said, ‘We cannot pay any further attention to a country that speaks while being soaked in red – the red of the bloodshed from the terrorism it sponsors around the world; the red of its debt-riddled national balance sheets; and the red of the shame of its people feel for their Government having failed to serve their actual interests’.
Anupama Singh said –
1. A country that has institutionalised the systematic persecution of its minorities and has a truly abysmal human rights record, has no locus standi to pronounce on matters that are internal to India.
2. Pakistan repeatedly mentioned India. It is very disappointing that blatantly false allegations are being made against India on the platform of the conference. The entire Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh is an integral and inalienable part of India.
3. The constitutional measures taken by the Government of India to ensure socio-economic development and good governance in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are matters internal to India and we will not tolerate anyone’s interference in them.
4. A glaring example was the large-scale brutality perpetrated against the minority Christian community in Jaranwala city, Pakistan in August 2023, when 19 churches were gutted, and 89 Christian houses burnt down.
Turkiye reprimanded too
Turkiye also raised the issue of Kashmir at the conference. While criticising Pakistan, India also warned Turkiye to not interfere in India’s internal affairs.
