Imam deported from France in 12 hours for calling National Flag ‘Satanic’
Paris (France) – The French Government has deported Tunisian Imam (prayer leader in a mosque) Mahjoub Mahjoubi for spreading “extremism.” Imam Mahjoub Mahjoubi is accused of making inflammatory statements at the Etouba Mosque in Bagnols-sur-Cèze, France. The French Government immediately arrested him and deported him from the country within 12 hours.
French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin announced on Twitter, “France has deported a Tunisian Muslim cleric for spreading extremism and making offensive remarks. There is no place for extremism in France.” Darmanin did not provide any information about where the Imam was deported.
Imam criticises the French national flag
A video of the Imam’s sermon from the mosque has gone viral on social media. In it, the Imam is seen calling a flag “satanic.” He says, “Those who follow the principles of Allah have no place for such flags in their lives. We will not have flags that trouble us and give us headaches.” Although the Imam did not directly name the French flag, it is widely believed that he was referring to it since the French flag has three colours blue, white, and red.
Imam to challenge in Court
“I have done nothing wrong. My statement was misinterpreted, and I had no intention of insulting the French flag,” the Imam told French media. He also said that he would challenge the action in Court.

Would such a step ever be taken in India ? India should learn from the French Government and take similar actions. |
