Nepal’s development projects delayed due to delay from the Chinese companies
|
Kathmandu (Nepal) – Nepal is facing the consequence of its friendship with China. There is delay in the projects that are being handled by Chinese businesses. Progress in many of the infra projects is extremely slow. Large numbers of them have passed the completion date. These projects include Nepal’s primary airports, various dams, renovation of the east-west highway, Mugling- Pokhara highway, the tunnel on the Terai Madhesh expressway etc.
The cost of these projects is increasing because of the delay, and this is the cause of Nepal’s distress. The enraged Nepalese citizens have been agitating for several months. Now even the Nepalese politicians have begun to oppose China. These projects are being done through funds from international organisations and banks. The projects being made with Chinese aid too have come to a stop. In a programme, China’s Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song said that Nepal is responsible for the delay in the projects. He said China is completing its projects on time in all other countries, then why are they unsuccessful only in Nepal ? Nepal alone is responsible for this delay.
Incomplete projects
Rasuwagadhi-Kerung transmission line remains incomplete and uncertain
Nepal’s Director General Manager of the Department of Roads Sushil Babu Dhakal said, “Delay is common for the road projects undertaken by Chinese companies. The 116 km stretch of the Narayanghat-Butwal section, which was undertaken with the aid of the Asian Development Bank was to be completed in 2019; but today in 2024, only 43% of it has been completed.
Editorial Perspective
Selfish China takes advantage of the helplessness of developing nations. This shows how Nepal has self-destructed due to cooperation with China. Pakistan and the Maldives are walking on the same path. |
