My religion is my strength : Keshav Maharaj, South African cricketer
Cape Town (South Africa) – ‘My religion is my strength. Religion and spirituality are my strength in difficult times, South African spinner Keshav Maharaj said. Keshav Maharaj, who wears a copper bracelet on his right hand with ‘Om Namah Shivay’ written on it, wants to visit Ayodhya and have a darshan of Ramlalla.
Some special examples of Keshav Maharaj’s faith in the Hindu Dharma
1. Keshav never shies away from expressing his faith in God on the field. An example of this was seen a few weeks ago during the Indian team’s cricket tour of South Africa. Whenever Keshav came out to bat, he used to ask the DJ to play the song ‘Ram Siyaram’.
2. During the ODI World Cup held in India in November-December 2023, Keshav had an ‘Om’ sticker on his bat in a match against the Netherlands. After defeating Pakistan in Chennai, he wrote ‘Jay Shri Hanuman’ in his post expressing the joy of victory.
3. In an interview he said that I come from a very religious and spiritual family. Religion and spirituality were not imposed on me. I always feel that they give me guidance and perspective in difficult situations.
4. Keshav’s great-grandfather migrated from Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh to Durban in 1874 to work as a labourer. Keshav says, ‘I celebrate all festivals at home and message everyone that they should have faith in life’.
5. Keshav was so excited during the consecration ceremony of Ramlalla in Ayodhya that he wrote a post on it. He said that I am an ardent devotee of Shriram, and this day was special. It was special to have something like this happen on such a large scale. It doesn’t happen everywhere in the world and I’m glad it did.
