Indians should leave Rakhine State in Myanmar and move to a safe place
India’s advisory for Indian nationals based in Myanmar
New Delhi – India’s Ministry of External Affairs has issued an advisory for Indians based in Myanmar in the wake of violence. Indian citizens have been asked not to enter the Rakhine province. It has been advised that Indians living in Rakhine State should immediately seek a safe place. India is worried that ‘China will spread unrest in North-East India through Myanmar rebels’. Since October 2023, Rakhine State and several other areas have been witnessing fierce fighting between ethnic groups and the Myanmar military.
In February 2021, the military in Myanmar ousted the democratic Government and took control of power. After this, the Chief of Army Staff, General Min Aung Hlaing declared himself the Prime Minister of the country. The army had declared a 2-year emergency in the country. A civil war has been going on in Myanmar since then.
