1. There was a lot of controversy due to the issue of taking down the Hanuman flag from the 108 feet high flagpole on 28th January 2024. BJP and Hindu organisations staged strong protests against the removal of the Hanuman flag. ‘What is the issue if the Hanuman flag is hoisted in a State where Tipu Sultan’s placards are seen everywhere ?’, the protesters said. The BJP had also raised questions on the secularism of the Congress Government.

2. As soon as the villagers learnt that the Hanuman flag would be removed, they  gathered there. The Police used batons to remove the protestors and later the Hanuman flag was removed and the national flag was hoisted there in the presence of administrative officials. At that time, the crowd raised saffron flags and chanted ‘Jai Shriram’.

3. Protesting the removal of the Hanuman flag, the crowd marched from Keragodu to Mandya District headquarters.
