Ban making videos and taking pictures of women bathing at the Holy ghats of River Ganga

• Demands by Advocate Ajay Gulati and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti’s Advocate Amita Sachdeva

• Committee raises a complaint to National Commission for Women and Uttarakhand State Commission for Women for legal action

New Delhi – Advocate Ajay Gulati from Moga (Punjab) and Advocate Amita Sachdev from Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, Delhi demanded strict legal action from Women’s Commission and Uttarakhand State Women’s Commission under Section 354 C/509 of the Code, Section 66 E/67/67 A of the Information Technology Act and Section 14 of the POCSO Act of the Indian Penal Code against the websites Hero City vlog, Haridwar vlog, Govind UK vlog, Adbhut vlog, Shanti Kunj Haridwar vlog and other culprits for disseminating obscene and unauthorised videos and photographs of women and minor girls on social media to undermine the dignity of women.

The complaint further states;

1. Digital, as well as social media are currently being flooded on a large scale with many harmful and offensive content to society. It is mainly from various vloggers for the greed of money who are secretly making videos and taking pictures of women bathing in the Holy River Ganga and circulating them on various media without their consent.

2. Because of this, many women in society face humiliating situations in front of their family, relatives and friends. Due to obscene and offensive comments and reactions written under those videos and photographs, their reputation and image are being tarnished. No decent woman can ever tolerate such harassment and humiliation from so many strangers. Such videos and photos are a black stain on civilised society. Therefore, there is an immediate need for the Government to ban filming and taking photographs at the various Holy ghats starting from the source of the River Ganga till Gangasagar.

3. The Government should immediately give instructions to remove all the objectionable videos and photographs from YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms or any other internet media of the convicts who have committed such acts.

4. Those who have circulated such defamatory videos and photographs of women or girls on the internet and social media will not only be fined, but will also face serious criminal charges. It has also been demanded that they should be prosecuted under the Indian Penal Code and given severe punishment.
