In kite flying fest, one died; 800 birds injured
Bombay High Court directs that topic on ‘Manja’ (A sharp thread used to attach kites for flying) should be included in the school curriculum !

Mumbai – On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, kites were flown on a large scale in Mumbai on 14th and 15th January. A bicyclist has died from the Kora Kendra flyover in Borivali, while 800 birds have been injured from Churchgate to Virar due to the use of sharp Manja for flying the kites.
More birds have been injured in Dahisar, Kandivali, Malad, Borivali. A medical camp was organised on 14th and 15th January to treat birds injured due to sharp Manja. Many injured birds have been admitted to Bai Sakarbai Dinshaw Petit Hospital in Lower Paral.
The Police administration has appealed to inform the Police directly if someone is using nylon Manja. After the order of the High Court, the Police department has also provided a hotline number for complaints.
The subject of Manja should be included in the school curriculum ! – Bombay High CourtThe Sambhajinagar Bench of the Bombay High Court has directed that the subject of Nylon Manja should be included in the school curriculum as Manja is a life-threatening matter. The principal secretary of the State School Education and higher and technical education department has been instructed to do so. Along with this, instructions have also been given to the Principal Secretary to inform about ‘What steps have been taken in three weeks to make students literate about Nylon Manja ?’ |
