Inaugural invitation to Smt. Om Bharti who sheltered 125 Karsevaks in 1990
The sacrifice of Karsevaks will never be forgotten – Smt. Om Bharti
Laxmanpuri (Uttar Pradesh) – 8,000 dignitaries have been invited for the inauguration of Shriram Temple. It also includes Smt. Om Bharti. In 1990, during the Government of Mulayam Singh in the State, the Karsevaks who came to Ayodhya were fired upon. At that time 125 Karsevaks were protected by Smt. Om Bharti by sheltering them in her house including the then Head of Vishva Hindu Parishad Ashok Singhal. The Kothari brothers from Kolkata who died in the firing that took place too stayed at Smt. Om Bharti’s house.
Smt. Om Bharti said that on November 2nd, 1990, the then Mulayam Singh Government ordered the Police to fire on the Karsevaks. The chief minister ordered firing for his political self-interest. Now the Shriram Temple is being inaugurated. I feel joyous and satisfied about it, but I will never forget the sacrifice of my Karsevaks, the blood they shed and the suffering they had to endure. The Kothari brothers were hiding in my own house to take shelter and save their lives from the firing. They were shot dead as soon as they came out of the house and became martyrs for Shriram Temple. The Congress, at that time, had taken the role of a bystander and did not help at all. The Chief Minister of that time ordered the firing of the Karsevaks to please his Muslim voters.
