Ayodhya – On 22nd January, the idol of Shriram Lalla will be consecrated and on this occasion 500 devotees from Nepal’s Ram Janaki temple brought 5,000 gifts to Ayodhya, welcomed by Shriram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust’s Champat Rai. The gifts, including money, clothes, fruits, gold and silver, signify the enduring spiritual bond between Nepal and India.
On 4th January Shriram devotees from Nepal had left for Ayodhya in 36 vehicles from Mithila. The Yatra was led by Mahant Ramtapeshwar Das of Janaki temple. Mahant Girishpati Tripathi welcomed these people to Ayodhya. Mahant Ramtapeshwar Das handed over these gifts to Champat Rai, General Secretary of Shriram Janmabhoomi Trust. On this occasion, Mahant Ramtapeshwara Das said, some gifts would be offered to Deity Shriram installed in other temples in Ayodhya. The devotees will then return to Mithila. As per the tradition of Mithila, these gifts have been brought to Ayodhya. There is a tradition that when a girl gets married and goes to her in-laws, the people of her maternal home gift her with the things she needs to start her life. At this time, Mahant Girishpati Tripathi said that we, the people of Ayodhya, always respect people from Mithila; because they are relatives and brothers of Mata Janaki. When Shriram is enthroned in a grand temple after 500 years of struggle, such gifts from the in-laws is memorable.
