International Cricket Council denies permission to Australian Cricketer Usman Khawaja

Khawaja had sought permission to display a picture in support of Gaza on his bat and shoes

Sydney (Australia) – Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja had sought permission from the International Cricket Council (ICC) to show his support for Gaza by displaying a picture on his bat and shoes. The ICC however has rejected his request. Usman has called it the hypocrisy of the ICC.

1. A few days ago, during a cricket match, Pakistani fans were evicted from a stadium in Perth, Australia, for displaying placards supporting Palestine.

2. Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja had earlier written a message in support of Gaza on his shoes. This had created some disturbance in the cricketing fraternity. He then requested the ICC to allow him to use the picture on his bat and shoes in support of Gaza.

3. Usman Khawaja has circulated a video on social media criticising the ‘ICC’ after they rejected his request. He says in the video that ‘South African cricketer Keshav Maharaj has an ‘Om’ symbol on his bat. Similarly, Nicholas Pooran and some other batsmen have different religious symbols on their bats. All these were not opposed but I am being opposed’.
