Joe Biden should make efforts to garner the support of Hindus
|
New York (US) – Citizens’ sentiments are under scrutiny for the upcoming US presidential election. On one hand, Joe Biden’s explicit support for Israel in the Hamas-Israel conflict has led to discontent among American Muslims; on the other hand, the US role in the Ukraine-Russia conflict could also affect the election. These insights are outlined in the Democratic Party’s internal report.
As per the report, Hindus hold significance in four States—Wisconsin, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Arizona. Joe Biden aims to gather USD 500 million (approximately Rs 4,100 crore), with Hindus playing a pivotal role in achieving this target. Hindus have traditionally been overwhelming Democratic supporters, but in the last few election cycles, the Hindu vote for the Republican Party has seen an upward trajectory.
Tommy Garcia, a spokesperson for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, highlighted that Donald Trump, who has campaigned under various guises as a friend of Prime Minister Modi, has succeeded in securing the votes from some Indians. Nevertheless, the Democratic Party consistently appreciates the support of Hindus, considering them valuable allies. Given this perspective, Biden should proactively engage with Hindus ahead of the 2024 general elections.
On the other side, a Democratic leader from California suggested that US Vice President Kamala Harris should visit temples in Georgia and Virginia to improve the party’s perceived anti-Hindu image.
Editorial Perspective
Millions of Hindus in the US must recognise the significance of their votes and form potent advocacy groups. Hindus in the US ought to convey to both the Democratic and Republican parties that their support will be given only towards the party committed to eliminating Khalistani tendencies and adopting a policy that fosters positive relations with India. |
