Vijayapura (Karnataka) – The Hindu organisations have demanded a ban on stalls owned by Muslims in the temple festival and warned of agitation if permission is given to Muslims. The Koppal Siddheshwar Fair is celebrated every year for the last 100 years on Makar Sankranti. Thousands of devotees participate in this Fair. Currently planning for the fair is going on.
Sri Ram Sene and other Hindu Organisations say that Muslims should not be permitted to take part in Hindu Festivals.
The workers of these organisations had gathered in front of Siddheshwar Temple. In a statement submitted to BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal, they said, “Muslims do not respect Indian law and culture. They continually attack our religious sentiments. Cow slaughter, selling cow meat, Love Jihad, indecent behaviour towards Hindu women etc. are increasing.
The Karnataka Muth-Mandir Mahasangh has said, “non-Hindus must not be allowed to do business during Hindu festivals. This demand has already been given to the Karnataka Government. The President of the Mahasangh, Mahesh Das said, “According to Act 31(12) of the Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act 1997, land, building or any other property near a temple, must not be rented out to a non-Hindu.
In the same year, Karnataka Police had lodged an FIR against the Secretary of South Kannada District, Sharan Pampavel of Vishwa Hindu Parishad for appealing to ban Muslim stalls during Hindu temple festivals.
The co-ordination committee of South Kannada and Udupi Districts has said, “Many Hindu Temples have banned Muslims from seeking permission for the allotment of stalls during Hindu Festivals. The reason is attacks on Hindu religious processions, festivals, and devotees. Also, Sharia Law says that those who do not abide by Sharia are Kafirs.
