Pakistan rejects the supremacy of Indian Constitution over J&K

Pakistan throws tantrums as Supreme Court validates Article 370

Islamabad (Pakistan) – Pakistan has reacted strongly to the validation of the Supreme Court regarding the abrogation of Article 370 in J&K by the Union Government. Pakistan’s caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jalil Abbas Jilani has said, “Pakistan does not acknowledge the supremacy of the Indian Constitution over Jammu and Kashmir. Any process subservient to the Indian Constitution carries no legal significance.”

Jilani added, “J&K is an internationally recognised dispute, and the topic has been on the agenda of the United Nation’s Security Council for more than 7 decades. India has no right to make unilateral decisions on the status of this disputed territory. Pakistan does not give any legal importance to the decision under the purview of Indian Constitution. India cannot abdicate its international obligations on the pretext of domestic legislation and judicial verdicts.”

Pakistani journalists questioned Jilani about maintaining peace on the border post-verdict. Jilani said, “Last two to three years were peaceful and we wish the same to continue in future. A meeting of stakeholders will be convened to decide the future course of action regarding Kashmir. The UN Council resolution rules that the question of accession of J&K to India and Pakistan should be decided through the democratic method of a free and impartial plebiscite.

International law doesn’t recognize India’s unilateral and illegal actions of 5 August 2019. The judicial endorsement by the Indian Supreme Court has no legal value. Kashmiris have an inalienable right to self determination in accordance with the relevant UN SC resolutions.

Pakistan’s recognition or rejection does not hold any significance because J&K is an integral part of India. Pakistan’s tantrums will not affect the verdict.
