Berlin, Germany – “Reducing carbon emissions is a major challenge that the world is currently facing. Countries like India, USA and China are often seen standing together in the fight against climate change and to save the environment. However, it is unacceptable to put India in the same basket as China and the USA regarding the carbon emission”, said Peter Liese, a Senior Member of the European Parliament while addressing the ‘United Nations Climate Change Conference’ held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Peter Liese said,
1. India’s per capita carbon emission is ‘very low’. Therefore, India cannot be put in the same basket as countries like the USA and China with high per capita carbon emission.
2. Climate and environmental conditions in developed countries are very different from that in India. Many people in Europe put China and India in the same basket and sometimes even with the Gulf States, which is completely unacceptable. This is unacceptable even to the Gulf countries.
3. A global team of scientists released a report earlier this week. According to this report, India’s per capita Carbon dioxide emissions is 2 tonnes, which is less than half the global average.
4. Scientists reported that the United States of America is the world’s leading per capita carbon emitter, followed by Japan, China and countries from the European Union.
