Mysterious pneumonia spreading rapidly in China

Beijing (China) – Many patients of a mysterious virus have been found in China. This infection is quickly spreading in China and is more severe in North China. Patients are now found even in neighbouring Vietnam. In Delhi’s AIIMS, seven patients of this mysterious virus have been found.
1.In October 2023, patients with ‘Mycoplasma Pneumoniae’ were found in China. In November, China saw an outbreak of influenza-like illness, mostly among children. Chinese hospitals were “overwhelmed with sick children”who have symptoms of respiratory illness, multiple media reports stated. India’s Health Ministry warned the States and the Union Territories about this pandemic about ten days ago.
2.Mycoplasma pneumoniae, the bacteria linked to the recent rise in cases of respiratory illness (pneumonia) among children has been found by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. A release by the health ministry read, “Pneumonia Cases in AIIMS Delhi have no link to the recent surge in respiratory infections in children in China… Since January 2023 till date, NO Mycoplasma pneumonia was detected in the 611 samples tested at the Department of Microbiology, AIIMS Delhi as a part ICMR’s multiple respiratory pathogen surveillance, which included mainly severe acute respiratory illness (SARI, which comprised about 95 per cent of these cases) by real-time PCR.”
Symptoms of the mysterious virus
It has been found that those with low immunity are affected by this disease. Immunity is generally low among children; therefore, they immediately fall prey to this virus. The symptoms are :
- Cough
- Pain/ itching of the throat
- Fever
- Swelling in lungs
- Swelling of respiratory tract
This disease is infectious and can spread to others when they come in contact with the affected person; therefore, it is likely to spread fast. As per a report published by a medical journal, ‘Lancet Microbe’, one case of this disease has been found in India during a PCR test. The other six cases were detected in the IgM ELISA test. It is a kind of blood test which is done after the transition.
World Health Organization (WHO) has many times questioned China about this mysterious virus and asked to furnish more details based on a report by the Programme for Monitoring Emerging Diseases (ProMED), since in the past, China didn’t publish statistics of even Corona. This disease spreads with the virus, which is known as ‘Mycoplasma Pneumonia Bacteria’. ProMED has sent an alert all over the world about this pneumonia spread in China. It had also alerted the world in 2019 about Corona. It has stated that, 13,000 children were admitted to hospitals in Beijing on one day. More than 7,000 children are brought to hospital with this infection, reminding of Corona pandemic. Considering this, it did not seem like a common pneumonia. |
