9 individuals arrested

Sonbhadra (UP) – The Police have booked 42 individuals for enticing poor and tribal Hindus with money in an attempt to convert them to Christianity. Nine of them have already been arrested.

The Police alleged that all these individuals were attempting to convert Hindus to Christianity by organising ‘Changai Sabhas’ (‘Changai’ means supposedly curing ailing people through prayers recited by a pastor). The poverty of tribal Hindus was being taken advantage of. During the arrests, the Police confiscated books about Christianity. Among those detained, Jaiprabhu is from Tamil Nadu, Ajay Kumar from Uttar Pradesh, and Chekka Emmanuel from Andhra Pradesh. The remaining individuals who were arrested have been identified as Rajendra Kol, Chhotu alias Ranjan, Parmanand, Sohan, Prem Nath Prajapati, and Ram Pratap. Editorial Perspective

These incidents occur due to the absence of a stringent anti-conversion laws in the country and subsequently no punishment for those involved. Hindus believe that the Union Government should enforce more stringent measures to address and deter such activities.
