Ban Halal products in Bihar : Giriraj Singh

Union Minister Giriraj Singh makes a demand in a letter to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar

Patliputra (Bihar) – Union Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Giriraj Singh has written a letter to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar demanding ban on halal certified products in Bihar like Uttar Pradesh and to take action against those behind issuing halal certificates.

In the letter, Singh said that in Bihar, Halal Certification is issued for food, edible oil, dry fruits, sweets, cosmetics, medicines, etc. Notably, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is a Government agency that certifies these foods. Businesses that are not related to Islam are being Islamised in the name of Halal Certification. Organizations issuing Halal Certification have become independent and are issuing certificates by taking money from the companies. The allegation that this is a conspiracy is not unfounded. In a secular democratic country like India, this form of Halal Certification is against the Constitution and is treasonous. The business of Halal Certification is more than Rs166 lakh crore worldwide. It has also come to light that this money is being used for terrorist activities. This needs to be investigated thoroughly.

Demand for ban on halal products in Karnataka too

Karnataka BJP MLA Basangowda Patil Yatnal has written a letter to Union Minister Piyush Goyal demanding a ban on Halal Certification agencies. He wrote in the letter that some Islamic organisations are giving halal certificates to meat, food, cosmetics and other items in the name of religious organisations. This is a matter of concern.

Editorial Perspective

Rather than banning in every State, it would be appropriate for the Union Government to ban halal products across the country
