The United States thwarted a plot to kill Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun : Report

A news report claims that the USA had warned India about its involvement in the plot

New Delhi – An English daily has published a report that ‘The United States thwarted a plot to kill Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, head of ‘Sikhs for Justice’, a banned Khalistani terrorist organisation. The US had also warned India about its involvement in the plot’. Pannun holds dual citizenship of the US and Canada. The Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had earlier alleged that India was involved in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. This report regarding the plot to kill Pannun may lead to further criticism of India.

The report further states,

When Trudeau blamed India for Nijjar’s killing, the US had presented the details of a plot to kill Pannun to its group of allies. The similarities between these events raised concerns in the US and its allies.

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s June visit, the USA had expressed its displeasure to India in this regard. The concerned officials did not clarify whether the US had forced India to convince the conspirators to refrain from the plot or the ‘Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)’ itself intervened and thwarted the plot.

We are seriously investigating the US inputs – India

Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), responded to the report published. He said, “We are investigating the nexus between organised criminals, gun runners, terrorists and others. India takes such inputs seriously since it impinges on our own national security interests as well. We are investigating the US inputs. The inputs are a matter of concern for both countries”.

In this regard, the US Government’s spokesperson Adrienne Watson said, “The Indian officials expressed concern over this input. They emphasised that such activities were not the policy of Delhi. India is currently investigating further details of the matter. We hope that action will be taken against those who are responsible for this”.

Editorial Perspective

The USA must tell the world why it does not extradite Pannun, who spews venom against India everyday.
