Seoul (South Korea) – Soon South Korea will be banning dog meat. The ruling party made this announcement. A Bill will be passed in the Parliament this year. Dog meat is a subject of criticism all over the world. Animal-friendly organisations also have been opposing it. It is said that with this in mind, this decision is to be taken. 20 lakh dogs get killed in South Korea every year, the consumption of dog meat is believed to be 1 lakh tonne.
The Government will compensate butchers for the losses due to the ban on dog meat. Earlier the bill to ban dog meat had been presented in the Parliament, but it was not passed due to the opposition of agents connected to this business.
Present President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife Kim Keon have been opposing dog meat for a long time. They have adopted many stray dogs.
