Pathanamthitta (Kerala) – A Court in Kerala recently convicted a 63-year-old man named Thomas Samuel for raping a minor girl and sentenced him to 109 years of rigorous imprisonment. Thomas Samuel had in fact adopted the very girl he had raped a few years ago. A Fast-Track Court at Adur in southern Kerala’s Pathanamthitta District has imposed a fine of Rs 6.25 lakh on Thomas Samuel, a resident of Pandalam. The Court has ordered that the fine should be given to the 12-year-old victim.
According to the Police, the victim was adopted by Samuel and his wife. The couple had no children. But the moment she arrived at Samuel’s house, he started raping her. During a period of one year from March 2021 to May 2022, he threatened her, sexually assaulted her, and brutally tortured her. Later, Samuel requested the Child Welfare Committee to take care of the girl, citing his poor health as the reason. After this, the girl was adopted by another family. The victim told her new family about the sexual harassment and based on their complaint, the Pandalam Police registered a case and started their investigation. The Court awarded a severe punishment to the accused under various sections of the ‘POCSO’ Act.
