47 middlemen apprehended across the country for illegal immigration of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis into India
New Delhi – NIA was investigating a human trafficking racket in eight States of the country. An operation was launched to capture the facilitators of illegal immigration after a group of Rohingyas travelling from Tripura to Assam were caught in February this year. Following this, the Police increased the vigil along the Indo-Bangladesh border. They thwarted the attempt of over 450 illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas to enter India with the help of the Border Security Force (BSF).
The 47 middlemen were arrested early morning today in raids conducted simultaneously in several States by Assam Police and NIA. 25 people from Tripura, 9 from Karnataka, 5 from Assam, 3 from West Bengal and Tamil Nadu and 1 from Haryana and Telangana have been taken into custody thus far. Some people have also been taken into custody from Rajasthan and Jammu-Kashmir.
Spurious Aadhaar Cards Pan Cards and many other papers were confiscated in the NIA raids. Besides this Rs 20 Lakh and $ 4,550 (approx. Rs 3,78,000) have been confiscated.
Special Director General of Police (Admn./Border) Harmeet Singh said increased vigil along the Indo-Bangladesh border and with the help of the Border Security Force (BSF) we succeeded in thwarting the attempt of over 450 illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas entering India.
