No bidders for the sword of cruel Tipu Sultan at an auction
London (England) – An auction for a sword belonging to Tipu Sultan, the brutal king of Mysuru, failed to fetch an expected sum. An establishment called ‘Christie’s’ organised an auction of this sword. The original price of the sword was set at 15-20 lakh pounds i.e. 15 to 20 crore rupees.
British killed Tipu Sultan in the year 1799. At that time the British Governor General Charles Cornwallis was gifted 2 swords from Tipu’s personal armoury. Another sword was sold for Rs 141 crore in an auction held earlier this year. Descendants of Cornwallis possessed these swords for the past three hundred and twenty-five years. They recently decided to auction them off.
