Imphal (Manipur) – The prime goal and objective before me is to bring about a dialogue between the Meitei and Kuki communities. Along with this, generating in the citizens of Manipur a feeling of security and confidence. The violence in the State was not a genocide. The Chief Minister of Manipur Biren Singh made this statement in his interview to a newspaper; he said the violence happened as a retaliation for the State Government’s action against the drugs and infiltration and unauthorised movement of people.

Chief Minister added,
1. The unfortunate incident of 2 women ofChief Minister added,
the Kuki (Christian) Community being paraded naked came to light. But actually, it was the (Hindu) Meitei community that rescued them and brought them safely to their homes. As well as it was the Meitei people who hunted down the accused and handed them over to the Police. The Meitei people should be appreciated for this. I repudiate with harsh words the people who committed this perverted crime.
2. A conjecture was being made that the, ‘Violence in Manipur was caused because of Manipur High Courts decision of including the Meitei Community into the Scheduled Caste and Tribes’, but it was not the case. The Government had not given any instruction on the Courts order. Therefore, there was no reason for the Kuki Community being annoyed.
3. Answering the question as to why the State Government could not anticipate that tension could prevail in the State ? He said that as on that day the Adivasi Community was going to hold a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’, he had told the DGP to give security in these sensitive areas. I learned later that the he had not provided for security for the Churachandpur District which was the centre. The Union Government has given orders for a judicial enquiry about the violence. Hence, I do not want to speak about it.
4. I have the full support and backing of the Union Government and they have confidence in me.
5. In 2018, Bharat and Myanmar had an agreement about ‘Free Movement’ between the 2 countries. Because of it the Tribals could freely move to about 16 kilometres within each other borders. This should not have been agreed to. If the citizens of Myanmar became permanent residents how could the fact and particulars be maintained ? If they do not leave who will be authorised to take action against them ? And numerous similar questions arose. These foreigners fearing that I would be deporting them spread this hate and misconception about me and my policy.
I did not meet the victims in the Meitei community as I belong to the Meitei and did not want that my visit be misconstrued, said Chief Minister SinghDoes Telangana’s Christian Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy ever think in this manner ? Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee is openly partisan to the oppressive Muslims. Hence, the Hindus feel that Biren Singh while keeping his ideals should console the Meitei victims of the violence. -Editor The Chief Minister answering the question of not visiting the victim familie, he said he wanted to meet and give support to the Kukis but he was not permitted to meet them. And then if I had met the Meitei victim families than it could have been misconstrued and begin another misunderstanding where people would have said ‘See, he is a Meitei and so he went to console the Meitei’. |
Editorial Perspectives
From this statement of the Chief Minister, do not be surprised if the Hindu-hater Congress leaders like Adir Ranjan Choudary or Rahul Gandhi begin to say that ‘He has now begun shielding the Meitei.’ Basically, the hand behind the violence was organisations based in Myanmar. Instead of calling out these organisations, the Western Countries and the Congress spent all their energies on raising a hue and cry ‘blaming and tarnishing the image of the Hindus’. Shameful of them ! |
