New Delhi – Congress had nurtured Bhindranwale, the Khalistani terrorist, to control the Punjabi Hindus. Congress promoted the concept of Khalistan for its own political gains. Former RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) officer GPS Sidhu said in an interview to ANI news agency, that money was being sent to Bhindrawale by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi, Gyani Zail Singh, and Kamalnath. The news channel was interviewing Sidhu about the dispute about Khalistan between Bharat and Canada.

The Congress was trying to break the alliance between the Akali Dal and Janata Party

Indira Gandhi was defeated in the post emergency election. Thereafter, Giani Zail Singh conspired to break the alliance between the Akali Dal and Janata Party in Punjab. For this, it was decided to promote among the Sikhs a Sant. The Congress plan was that this Sant was to criticise the policies of Akali Dal on the instruction of the Congress. Janata Party would comment on the criticism and this would lead to a break in the alliance.

Congress promoted Bhindranwale

Giani Zail Singh, Sanjay Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, and Kamalnath were playing an active role in this conspiracy. All this was being done from Indira Gandhi’s Akbar Road office and 1 Safdarganj residence. They used Bhindranwale as a front for their plan. They promoted the Khalistan idea by supporting Bhindranwale as the face of that movement. Their purpose was to use Bhindranwale frighten the Hindus. The Khalistan movement started at that time when it was not existing earlier. ‘There is a danger to the unity of the Country and so let us take political advantage of this situation’ was the thought behind their promoting the Khalistan issue.

Congress discovered and promoted Bhindranwale

Sidhu said with a reference to the former India’s High Commissioner to Britain Kuldip Nayyar’s book “Beyond the line’, that he had discussed the matter of Bhindranwale with Kamalnath. Then Kamalnath had said, ‘we are searching for a fierce and high-level Sant. Who listen to us and obey and follow our instructions.’ To this end Kamalnath had interviewed two Sants. One of them was extremely mild, but the other Bhindranwale, the Congress felt, fit their bill completely.

Kamalnath has said, ‘We were sending money to Bhindranwale’

Kamalnath told Kuldeep Nayyar, that ‘he, Sanjay Gandhi, and others of their party were supplying Bhindranwale with funds’. Which means that it was not just Kamalnath and Sanjay Gandhi who gave Bhindranwale money, Indira Gandhi, Giani Zail Singh were also part of the money giving conspiracy. Congress alone promoted Bhindranwale.

Congress used Bhindranwale, for its own political gains

Bhindranwale had never made a demand for Khalistan. He only said, ‘If Indira Gandhi gives Khalistan in my lap, I will never say no to that.’ Bhindranwale was used not for religious preaching but he was used only for political gains.
