Ottawa (Canada) – Canada accused India of involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June in Surrey, Canada, and ordered an Indian diplomat to leave the country within 5 days. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau directly accused India of being involved in this murder while speaking in the Canadian Parliament. He said, ‘Canadian investigative agencies have been conducting a thorough investigation for the past few weeks regarding whether the Indian diplomats were involved in the killing of Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar’. Nijjar was shot dead by 2 youths in the parking lot of a Gurdwara.
After Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a brief statement regarding the matter, Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly informed about this action. She said that we will not tolerate any kind of foreign interference. We are firm on this. We have informed the External Affairs Minister of India in this regard. We have also conveyed that we expect full cooperation from India to get to the root of this matter. Consequently, we have expelled a senior Indian diplomat from Canada.

In a tit-for-tat response, India kicks out a Canadian diplomat!
After the expulsion of an Indian diplomat in Canada, India has responded in a tit-for-tat move by expelling a Canadian diplomat in India. A statement issued by India’s Ministry of External Affairs said that Canada’s High Commissioner to India, Cameron MacKay, had been summoned. He was informed of the Indian Government’s decision to expel a senior Canadian diplomat in India. The concerned diplomat has been ordered to leave India within the next 5 days. We are taking this action because of interference in our internal affairs and participation in anti-India activities.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs further stated that India denies the allegations made by Canada. We watched the Canadian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister’s statement in their Parliament. Similar accusations were levelled by the Prime Minister of Canada to our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but even then, we had completely rejected it. We are a democratic country and bound to respect the law. This is an attempt to divert attention from the issue of Khalistani terrorists and radicals taking shelter in Canada. These Khalistanis are directly posing a threat to India’s sovereignty and social harmony. The lack of action by the Canadian Government in this matter has been a pending issue for many years. Political figures in Canada have openly expressed sympathy for Khalistani leaders. This is a matter of concern. Crimes like illegal activities, murders and human trafficking are not new in Canada. We request the Government of Canada to take immediate legal action against all such anti-India activities going on in Canada.

US’ reaction to the dispute between India and Canada
The US has reacted to the dispute between India and Canada over the killing of Khalistani supporter Hardeep Singh Nijjar. US National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said we are deeply concerned about the allegations made by Prime Minister Trudeau. We are in regular contact with our Canadian counterparts. It is necessary for Canada to investigate and punish the perpetrators.
The repercussion of Trudeau not getting importance in the ‘G20’ conference!
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited India for the G20 summit meeting held in Delhi on the 9th and 10th of September. He was then criticised by the Canadian media for getting little importance compared to the heads of other countries. It was also alleged that Trudeau could not make an impact at this conference. Indian Prime Minister Modi had demanded strict action against Khalistanis in Canada during his meeting with Trudeau. Trudeau later said that we cannot take action against the innocent.
Following this, Trudeau had to stay in India for 2 days due to a technical snag in his plane before returning to Canada. He was also criticised in Canada for this. As a result of all these incidents, Trudeau is said to have acted against India.
Editorial Viewpoint
Sikh supporters of Khalistani terrorists have been living in Canada for the past few decades and they have been providing all sorts of support to the Khalistanis in Punjab. Khalistani terrorists fleeing to Canada after carrying out terrorism in Punjab is not new. Owing to this fact, Canada’s policy to support such elements instead of taking action against them is nothing but bizarre! |
