Faced caste discrimination at temple : K Radhakrishnan

Kerala CPM Dalit MLA and Temple Affairs Minister K Radhakrishnan’s allegation

Avoided to name the temple

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) – K Radhakrishnan, a Kerala CPI(M) MLA and the Minister for Temple Affairs, has come forward with allegations of experiencing caste discrimination at a temple. The minister did not name the temple where he faced alleged discrimination but he criticised Hindu Dharma on this incident. K Radhakrishnan is a Dalit leader in CPI(M) party.

Editorial Viewpoints

If K Radhakrishnan holds the esteemed position of Minister of Temple Affairs in the State, it is expected that he discloses the name of the specific temple involved. This transparency would enable appropriate action to be taken against anyone who may have insulted the Minister based on his caste. However, it is also crucial to discern between genuine concerns and deliberate attempts to critique Hindu Dharma under the guise of caste issues. In such cases, it is imperative for Hindus to express their opposition through legitimate and constructive means.

The only meaning of Hindu Dharma is to keep people divided

While speaking at an event, Temple Affairs Minister K Radhakrishnan said, “During my visit to a temple for a function, I was invited to light a lamp, but I was not provided with any lamp to do so. The temple priests had lamps with them, yet none were handed to me. Instead, they lit the main lamp with a small lamp and placed it on the ground, expecting me to pick it up and use it to light the main lamp. I never anticipated such an occurrence during my temple visit. This incident has led me to believe that the sole purpose of Hindu Dharma is to perpetuate division among people”. ‘My funding is acceptable but I am considered untouchable’

K Radhakrishnan alleged that, “My funding is accepted without reservation, but I am treated as ‘untouchable’ by them. Their actions have clearly demonstrated this discrimination”. (It is crucial for ministers to bear in mind that the funds they allocate do not come from their personal pockets but are provided by the Government – Editor)

Editorial Viewpoints

  • Drawing sweeping conclusions about Hindu Dharma based on a single, somewhat unclear incident raises questions about the Minister’s potential bias against it. It appears to reveal an anti-Hindu stance on his part.
  • If Minister Radhakrishnan is criticising Hindu Dharma on the basis of such an alleged incident, he should also make a statement about the religion responsible for killing millions of citizens worldwide due to Jihadi terrorism.
