Violence erupts at Mewar University, Chittorgarh; Kashmiri Muslim students resort to stone-pelting

Chittorgarh (Rajasthan) – Kashmiri Muslim students at Mewar University engaged in stone-pelting while raising the slogans of ‘Allah-hu-Akbar’. These students were armed and faced opposition from another group. 8 individuals have sustained injuries, of which 2 are critical, due to the resulting violence. The Police have apprehended 36 students in connection with the violence. Currently, there is peace with underlying tension in the area. This incident occurred on the night of 25th August. A video of the violence and the Muslim students raising slogans has been circulating on social media.
According to the information received, clashes erupted in the university’s mess between Kashmiri Muslim students and other students over food. Kashmiri Muslim students vandalised the mess and launched a weapon attack. They also assaulted the locals leaving one individual seriously injured. The individual was rushed to a hospital in Udaipur for treatment. Upon learning about the violence, the members of a Hindu organisation gathered outside the university. Currently, a significant Police presence is seen in this area.
