Education officer admonishes a school principal for uttering the word ‘Hindu’

  • An incident in Udupi
  • Muslim education officer complaints against the school-principal for referring to ‘Hindu Janajagruti Samiti’ while introducing its member as the guests during a programme held on the occasion of Independence Day

Udupi (Karnataka) – Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) held a programme on Independence Day in a primary school at Moodbidri in Udupi District. Abdul Karim, a former President of past students and a counsellor, was also on the stage.  Mrs Alka Balram and Mrs Shamala Suresh were introduced as members of ‘Hindu Jagaran Vedike’ during the programme, but it displeased counsellor Abdul Karim, and he left the programme in anger. Attempts were made to pacify him, but to no avail. A complaint was lodged with the Municipality Education Department even before the programme was over. The Education Officer called the principal and admonished him for uttering the word ‘Hindu’ while introducing them, instead of introducing them just by their names. The matter was reported to the members of HJS by the principal, and they were also advised to be present in case they were called for any inquiry.

HJS had given a memorandum in the primary school at Moodbidri about maintaining the honour of the national flag. The members of HJS were allowed to take a lecture on the subject; therefore, they were present on Independence Day. A short meeting was held before hoisting the flag when the principal introduced Mrs Alka Balram and Mrs Shamala Suresh and the above incident happened.

Editorial Viewpoint

Such incidents are shameful for all Hindus in a country where they are a majority population. In fact, this Muslim officer should be taken to task for having an aversion to the word Hindu, in a secular country. In the Congress-led Karnataka, however, it is obvious that the word Hindu would be treated as fanatic while Muslim would be considered secular.
