New Delhi – The Surat Court had given Rahul Gandhi 2 years imprisonment for insulting persons having the surname Modi.  Because of which he lost his Lok Sabha membership. An appeal for a stay against the conviction was made in the Supreme Court where the matter was heard on the 4th of August. The Supreme Court has stayed the conviction.

The Supreme Court said the maximum sentence for insulting anyone is two years imprisonment. Rahul Gandhi’s offence act was a bailable offence. Rahul Gandhi could have been given a sentence a day less than two years, then, his Lok Sabha Membership would not have been cancelled.  So what was the exact reason for the Surat Court for giving a sentence 2 years imprisonment ? This should have been clearly specified.  Gandhi’s speech was completely inappropriate. Individuals in public life like Rahul Gandhi have a greater responsibility of behaving in an appropriate manner.
