The decision on Gorkha recruitment in the Indian Army is on hold; but still under discussion : Nepal’s Ambassador

Kathmandu (Nepal) – Nepal had suspended the Gorkha recruitment in the Indian Army under the Agneepath scheme a year ago. However, the matter is not completely over yet, said Shankar Prasad Sharma, Nepal’s Ambassador to India. Sharma said that the matter has not been discussed in depth by the two Governments yet. Therefore, the dialogue in this case did not stop completely.

He further added that the Nepal Government feels the recruitment of Gorkha soldiers should be done as per the previous rules. The Government of Nepal has not taken any concrete decision on this yet; but the discussion continues on whether to recruit Gorkha soldiers in the Indian Army or not.
