Fresh firing and violence in Manipur
Imphal (Manipur) – In Manipur’s Thorbang and Kangwe, the Hindu Maitei community and the Christian Kuki community clashed, resulting in renewed firing and violence. Earlier on 26th July, there was gunfire and arson on the Myanmar border. Christian Kukis are the majority in this area. Violence broke out there the next day as well.
An estimated 13,000 people from the Kuki-Jomi community in Manipur have fled to neighbouring States due to the violence. They held a march in support of the Kuki community in Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram. Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga also participated in it. More than 50,000 people participated.
Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh expressed displeasure over the march in support of the Kuki community in Aizawl. He said that Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga should not interfere in the internal affairs of another State. The State Government is fighting against drugs. The Manipur Government is not against the Kuki community living in the State. The State Government was vigilant about all the happenings in the State. They would take strict action against those who try to destroy the integrity of Manipur.
