India supports Pakistan’s motion in the United Nations against repeated burning of Quran in Sweden
New York (USA) – India supported Pakistan’s motion in the United Nations Human Rights Council against the repeated incidents of burning of Quran in Sweden. In this motion, Pakistan has demanded strict action against those who burn the Quran. Several western countries, including the United States, Britain, Belgium, Germany, Romania, Lithuania, Costa Rica, Finland, and the European Union, voted against the motion citing freedom of speech.
The Human Rights Council has 47 members in total. These include 19 countries from the ‘Organization of Islamic Cooperation’, all of which supported Pakistan’s motion. China also voted in support of Pakistan. Seven countries including Nepal did not vote.
