12 members of the banned organisation released due to public pressure in Manipur !
Imphal (Manipur) – Violence has continued in Manipur for the past 54 days. On 24th June, more than 1,200 local women rescued 12 members of the so-called ‘Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup’ (KYKL) organisation from the security forces. Also, due to their pressure, the security forces had to stop the search operation. The security forces did not take any action against the women so as not to harm them. KYKL is a banned organisation.
A Defence Public Relations Officer said the army had launched a search operation in Itham village following a tip-off. The entire area was cordoned off to avoid any inconvenience to people. Security forces seized a large quantity of arms and ammunition from there. KYKL workers were also arrested. After getting information about this, a large number of women reached there and put pressure on the army to release these workers.
120 people killed in Manipur so far; more than 3,000 injured
So far 120 people have died in communal violence in Manipur. More than 3,000 people are injured. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also held an all-party meeting in this regard on 24th June. He informed that 40 IPS officers and 36 thousand security personnel have been deployed in the State to handle the situation.
